The early attempts to fly can be traced back to the ancient civilizations, where people have dreamt of flying like birds and have tried to build machines that could make them fly. However, it wasn’t until the late 19th century that powered flight became a reality.
One of the earliest recorded attempts to fly was made by the Leonardo da Vinci, who designed several flying machines including ornithopters and helicopters in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. However, these designs were purely theoretical and were never built.
The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, are widely regarded as the pioneers of powered flight. In 1903, they built and flew the first successful powered aircraft, the Wright Flyer, near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. This event marked the beginning of the aviation age and opened up new possibilities for transportation, commerce, and military applications.
